When 'Enough!' Isn’t Enough: Moving Beyond Limit Setting to Help People With PWS Cope More Effectively With Frustration and Anxiety

Dawn Huebner, Ph.D.

As if the cards haven’t been stacked against her already, your sweet little girl (or boy) has suddenly been hijacked by intense and seemingly unmanageable feelings. Anxiety over simple decisions. Refusal to go along with minor changes in plans. Frustration blossoming into rage. So you, well versed in the need for strict control, click into a limit-setting mode. Stop arguing with me. Stop picking at yourself. Stop asking me that. Except it doesn’t work, because when it comes to managing feelings, ‘Enough!’ is never enough. You (as parent or caregiver) can learn to conceptualize your child’s problems differently, leading to a set of remarkably effective techniques to implement on your own and, importantly, teach your child, with the aim of fewer flare-ups and faster recoveries.

Dawn Huebner, PhD, is a clinical psychologist and author of the award winning What to Do Guides for Kids series published by the American Psychological Association. Her books teach children the skills they need to overcome generalized anxiety, OCD, negative thinking, easily triggered anger, sleep problems, and ‘bad’ habits. Known for her engaging style and her ability to translate cognitive-behavioral techniques into language easily accessible to parents and kids, Dr. Huebner is often interviewed by the national media, including a recent appearance on the TODAY Show. Her books have been translated into 12 languages, and are distributed worldwide. Dr. Huebner maintains a private practice in Exeter, NH, working with children ages 12 and under and their parents. She is a 1987 graduate of the University of Michigan.

Dr. Huebner’s books will be available for purchase and book signing. Or, visit www.dawnhuebnerphd.com to order now and bring your book with you to the book singing.
